Bosch GTS1031 Jobsite Table Saw & GTA500 Stand

To help us stay on top of things here at ToolSkool, we sometimes send out tools to be tested to pros we know.  We put the Bosch Portable Jobsite Table Saw in the capable hands of a general contractor, Dana Wilkerson, and asked him to give us his thoughts after he used it.  Here’s what he had to say:

Pros:

  • The saw was lightweight and easy to set up.
  • It had plenty of power.
  • When used with the stand, it was a comfortable height for working on the jobsite.
  • The onboard tools are easily accessible.  Especially helpful was the blade holder for changing blades.
  • The height of the saw on the stand makes it easy to change the blade.
  • The saw was extremely portable.
  • It breaks down nicely and is a space saver when it’s being stored.
  • The switch is in a good location.
  • The angle of the cut is better than the average portable jobsite saw.  It’s greater than 45 degrees, which is helpful.
  • The dust port is convenient and useful with the tool.

Cons:

  • The fence tends to wander when setting a cut.  The user needs to watch this and adjust consistently to avoid making bad cuts.
  • It would be better if had the capacity to rip a 4×8 sheet of plywood in half.
  • The table top is a bit small for larger cuts.  And extending table is necessary for bigger cuts.
  • In the model that we got, the factory settings were off slightly, but on the upside, they were easily adjusted and stayed true once the adjustments were made.
  • Even with the dust port, there were a lot of airborne wood chips on the cut.
In our conversations about the tool, Dana also mentioned that the stand was very convenient and that it should be purchased with the tool to make the tool the most functional it can be.
